North Carolina Zoo

Now that the weather is beginning to get warmer, it's the perfect time to visit the zoo!! The North Carolina Zoo is located in Asheboro, NC which is about an hour and a half outside of Raleigh. The zoo sits on 500 acres of land, has 5 miles of shaded pathways, and is home to more than 1,100 animals and 40,000 plants!!

Here are some tips from animal keepers to help you see the animals when you visit:
  • Some animals do not like the cold, so if it's below 45 degrees, some animals may not be out on exhibit.
  • Animals tend to be more active in the morning than in the afternoon.
  • The animals will not respond to calls, whistles or tapping on the glass. Your best bet is to remain quiet and watchful.
  • Some animals tend to stay in the back of their exhibit near the Zoo's closing. In large exhibits, animals might be harder to see at the end of the day.
  • Many animals use “camouflage techniques,” so be patient and look closely.

For information about feeding times for the animals you can visit: http://www.nczoo.org/events/feedingtimes.html

Beginning in April, there will be some new additions to the zoo!! From April-October they'll have the new Giraffe Deck up and running where you'll be able to see eye-to-eye with the giraffes! Swamp Ghosts will be a special exhibit at the zoo from April-October also. Swamp Ghosts are white alligators and legend says to look in the eyes of white alligators for good luck. My recommendation would be to not get too close though!! ;)

Are your kids a fan of Dora the Explorer? Well from April 1st-Oct 31st you can see Dora and Diego's 4-D Adventure at the Asheboro Zoo! Shows are daily from 10am to 4pm.

Make sure to check out the special events that the zoo hosts: http://www.nczoo.org/events/calendar.html

For any more information regarding the Asheboro Zoo, please visit their website at http://www.nczoo.org/.

Have a great spring, and have a blast at the zoo!! :)

Park West Village

Curious as to why they have cleared all of the land at the intersection of Cary Parkway and Chapel Hill Rd?! Well Park West Village is being built and said to open Fall of 2011!!

The biggest addition to Park West Village is TARGET!! I know we'll all spend way too much money at this Target on our days off and lunch breaks! :)

In addition to the Target, Stone Theatres are set to build a 14 screen Cinema. The theatre will hold 2,600 stadium-style seats. Park West Village will also be home to other retailers such as Omaha Steaks, Buy Buy Baby, Mattress Firm, TJ Maxx, The Dress Barn, Rack Room Shoes, Gamestop, and Sprint. And if you get hungry while you're shopping you'll be able to stop at restaurants like Rukas Pizza, Qudoba Mexican Grill, Zoes Kitchen, Travinia Italian Kitchen, and New Japan Express! Future phases of the Village also include building a 140-room hotel.

Morrisville is growing and expanding so quickly, it is truly becoming THE place to live! Morrisville is considered the Heart of the Triangle. With easy access to I-40 and I-540 you can be in RTP, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Durham in no time. And with Park West Village offering one stop shopping life has just become easier!

According to http://www.loopnet.com/, there are still 20 spaces still available to lease, so we'll keep you updated on what else is coming to Park West Village!

Gross Science at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences!!!!

Ever wonder why dogs sniff each other, why cows need four stomachs to digest their food or why cats spit up hair balls? Here's your chance to find out! Animal Grossology, a new special exhibit at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh, takes a unique and scientific look at nature's slime-making, vomit-munching creatures.

Adapted from the best-selling Grossology childrens's book series by author and science teacher Sylvia Branzei, this exhibit is oozing with disgusting science and entertaining hands-on learning games such as Blood Sucker Blow-Up, where visitors see what happens when ticks and mosquitoes have too much to drink, and Chew Chew Express, a detailed look at the various steps of digestion in cows, one of the gassiest animals on Earth. Visitors will also learn how leeches are sometimes used after surgeries to assist in the healing process and why scientists are studing the slime produced by slugs and snails for clues in treating cystic fibrosis. Safety tips are dispersed throughout the exhibit, such as what to do if a jellyfish stings you and how to protect your food at the next family picnic. By the way, do you know what honey really is? How do you feel about bee barf on your biscuit?

The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences is the Southeast's largest natural history museum and it offers four floors of exhibits, live animals, a store and Acro Cafe. Highlights include the world's most complete Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur; Willo, the first dinosaur discovered with a foxxilized heart; a two-story waterfall; and the Living Conservatory bussing with hummingbirds and butterflies! The museum hosts spectacular new traveling exhibits every year. Hands-on programs daily. Best of all, admission is Free! Go check it out today :-)

Fall is Here, Which Means Halloween is Just Around the Corner!!

Are you ready for Halloween?? Have you picked out your pumpkin and carved it yet?? If not, make sure to stop by Green Acres off Morrisville Carpenter today!!

Green Acres offers all kinds of activities for all ages!! Of course you can go and pick a pumpkin from their huge selection (which by the way are all grown in Western NC and Southwestern VA). But what about going through their corn maze?? Their corn maze is 1.5 miles of fun and they've created a game WITHIN the maze to challenge guests!

If the corn maze isn't your thing, don't worry, you could choose to go on a hay ride, have the kids play in the bounce house or go on a pony ride. They also offer face painting, and have tractors and fire trucks there to see!!

Guests that visit will also enjoy hot food, light concessions, and plenty of props for a family photo!!

For the month of October, they will be open Friday through Sunday. Friday hours are 4pm-10pm, Saturday hours are 9am-10pm, and Sunday hours are 11am-dark.

For more information about Green Acres, please visit their website at http://www.greenacrescary.com/index.aspx

If you like a little fright in your life, make sure to check out some of the haunted houses around town also!! ;)
